When Is a 30W/m COB LED Strip the Right Choice? Power, Heat and Optical Planning
A dense COB strip can remove visible light points, but a 30W/m design creates a different driver, conductor, profile and maintenance problem from ordinary accent tape. This guide uses the published DC24V, 20mm, Ra≥90, 180° and 3300–3900lm/m data to decide where the product fits.
The real decision is not COB versus visible dots
COB construction can create a visually continuous luminous surface, but buyers still need to decide whether the project needs 3300–3900lm/m or only a decorative glow. Installing a 30W/m product where a lower-output strip would suffice increases driver size, conductor current and heat without improving the design objective.
The published applications include hotels, shopping malls, furniture, cabinets and shelves for direct or indirect light. Direct task or display lighting makes better use of the available output; indirect coves lose light on surrounding surfaces and should be evaluated with a mock-up rather than by strip lumens alone.
