Quick buying answer
These are two different system directions, not merely 47mm versus 40mm.
| LIKELIGHT candidate | Published starting configuration | Strong first fit | Stop gate before quotation |
|---|---|---|---|
| L-R-D47 bumper-car tube [S1] | RGB, 360°, 12V, OD47/ID32mm, UCS1903, 60 pixels/tube, 43.2W/tube, IP66 wording | a protected, vehicle-mounted RGB feature where the thicker body and known SPI layout suit the ride design | length-to-pixel/power pairing, impact/vibration mounting, connector and ride approval |
| L-R-D40 360° bar [S2][S3] | RGB/RGBW, 40mm, 24V, 28.8W/m, addressable, screw/clip; IP must be frozen | suspended atrium/stage arrays, open decorative lines and projects needing an RGBW option | pixel pitch/IC, exact IP/material, suspension and secondary retention |
Start with D47 for a bumper-car or vehicle body only when the ride manufacturer accepts the mounting and electrical change. Start with D40 for an open suspended or architectural composition where slim diameter, 24V distribution and optional RGBW matter. Neither can be approved from diameter and catalog photos alone.
1. Why application comes before diameter
A bumper-car tube is exposed to vibration, cleaning, body flex and possible impact near a protective ring. Its mounts, connectors and cable routes become part of a moving machine. A suspended tube is exposed to gravity, sway, overhead risk, access equipment and public circulation below. Its end fittings and secondary retention can be more important than the tube wall.
The 7mm diameter difference does not prove impact resistance, brightness or safety. The public pages do not publish comparable mechanical test results. Product selection must therefore begin with hazard, mounting and service responsibility.
ASTM F2291 provides criteria and references for ride design and major modification, with sections for general design, loads, controls, electrical, mechanical and documentation [S4]. It does not make this article an approval. Determine the applicable destination rules and obtain the ride manufacturer's authorization.
2. Published facts and contradictions to freeze
L-R-D47
The page publishes RGB SMD5050, six internal strips, 360-degree wording, 12V, OD47/ID32mm, UCS1903, 60 pixels/tube, 43.2W/tube, IP66 wording, input direction and 0.5/1/1.5/2m length options [S1].
The key gap is that the page does not pair each length with LED count, pixel count and watts. A 0.5m and 2m tube cannot be assumed to have identical density or load merely because they share one page. Request a version matrix before sizing power or controller ports.
L-R-D40
The current product page publishes RGB/RGBW, addressable, 40mm, 24V, 28.8W/m, 360-degree wording and screw/clip mounting [S2]. Its housing row says PC/ABS should be specified, and its IP row also says to specify IP65/IP67 where applicable. A separate official guide describes a DC24V IP65 project direction [S3]. Therefore IP and material are order fields, not universal facts.
The reviewed D40 pages do not publish pixel pitch, pixel count/m, IC, channel order or controller capacity. Do not infer them from D47 or another tube.
3. Ten D47 tubes: load and content calculation
Conditionally applying the D47 page's published 60 pixels/tube and 43.2W/tube [S1]:
| Planning item | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Tubes | fixed example | 10 |
| Pixels | 10×60 | 600 pixels |
| Logical RGB values/frame | 600×3 | 1,800 values |
| Nominal tube load | 10×43.2W | 432W |
| Theoretical 12V current | 432W÷12V | 36A |
This is not one recommended circuit. It shows why the project needs branches, cable and protection. Supply loss, controller load, line loss, derating and legal margin are excluded. The 1,800 values are content values, not automatically DMX slots or addresses; UCS1903 is a cascade pixel protocol in this product context.
Most importantly, confirm which tube length the 60-pixel/43.2W values describe. If a quoted version differs, the calculation must be replaced.
4. Ten metres of D40: what can and cannot be calculated
Using the published 24V and 28.8W/m [S2]:
`10m × 28.8W/m = 288W`
`288W ÷ 24V = 12A theoretical total`
This does not reveal pixel count, RGB/RGBW channels, controller ports or frame rate because pixel pitch is missing. A supplier quotation must add pixels/m, IC/protocol, color order, branch length and controller mapping before control capacity can be calculated.
The lower current in this example does not prove the D40 system is cheaper or safer. The compared lengths and functions differ; RGBW, suspension, custom end fittings and access can change installed cost.
5. Product and system comparison matrix
| Dimension | L-R-D47 bumper-car tube | L-R-D40 360° bar |
|---|---|---|
| Published voltage | 12V | 24V |

| Color | RGB | RGB or RGBW |
| Published pixels | 60/tube; length pairing pending | not published |
| Published control | UCS1903 SPI | addressable; exact IC/protocol pending |
| Physical format | OD47/ID32mm | 40mm diameter |
| Primary mounting intent | vehicle/bumper-car body | screw/clip, open or suspended project |
| Ingress wording | IP66 product wording | order IP row unresolved; guide says IP65 direction |
| Fault domain | tube, six internal strips, connector and cascade behavior to test | pixel/run/connector behavior to test |
| Maintenance | moving vehicle, impact zone and fast replacement | overhead access, end fitting and secondary retention |

6. Control, failure and recovery test
For D47, obtain the mini-controller model and the UCS1903 pixel map. Confirm whether 60 pixels are ordered around the circumference, along the length or in another physical sequence. A beautiful chase in software can look broken when the pixel coordinate map is wrong.
For D40, freeze RGB or RGBW first. RGB is three logical color values per pixel; RGBW is four. The controller file, channel order and capacity must match the shipped version.
Run a controlled sample fault matrix:
- disconnect one input connector;
- interrupt one data path using an approved test method;
- power down one branch;
- restart controller and supplies in each allowed sequence;
- test the longest approved cable and warm operating state;
- record which tubes or pixels stop, freeze, mis-color or recover;
- document replacement time, tools and access.
Do not create faults on an operating public ride. Bench testing and ride commissioning require qualified responsibility and an approved safety procedure.
7. Mechanical and public-safety boundary
Vehicle-mounted D47
Confirm brackets cannot loosen, cut the tube or create protrusions. Route cables away from moving joints, hot surfaces, passenger reach and impact paths. Review bumper deformation, vibration, strain relief, connector retention, cleaning chemicals and replacement access. Decorative lighting must not obscure operational or emergency indications.
Suspended D40
Every tube needs a defined primary support and, where required, independent secondary retention. Verify tube/end-cap mass, allowable orientation, attachment rating, spacing, sway, collision with adjacent tubes, cable bend, fire strategy, safe clearance and access equipment. A power cable is not a suspension cable unless explicitly engineered as such.
The destination's ride, building, machinery, electrical and fire rules govern. ASTM F2291 identifies relevant ride-design categories [S4]; it does not replace project engineering.
8. IP does not cover the complete installation
D47 lists IP66 [S1]. D40 has an order-dependent IP row while its guide describes IP65 [S2][S3]. IEC 60529 classifies protection provided by enclosures [S5]. It does not automatically cover connector mating, cable exits, splices, control boxes, mounting holes, drain paths or damage after repeated impact and service.
Ask for the report and exact tested sample. Then inspect the complete installed route: tube body, both ends, every connector, branch, enclosure and penetration. Define what happens after a tube is cut, customized, opened or replaced.
9. Sample acceptance workflow
- Submit ride/installation CAD, tube locations, lengths, quantity, viewing distance, content and destination.
- Freeze D47 or D40 order code, exact length, color version, material, IP construction and accessories.
- Obtain dimensioned mounting, cable, connector, power-zone and control drawings.
- Build one real vehicle bay or suspended representative module with production brackets and connectors.
- Run solid colors, white requirement, chases, lowest level, fastest effect and emergency/normal operating scenes.
- Measure branch input current and voltage at source, first/middle/last tube after thermal stabilization.
- Perform approved vibration/movement, cleaning, restart, connector retention and fault tests appropriate to the application.
- Inspect passenger/public clearances, pinch/sharp points, surface temperature, cable protection, primary support and secondary retention.
- Time one tube replacement and verify the controller file and physical pixel map restore correctly.
- Freeze golden sample, BOM, drawings, firmware/files, acceptance video, labels, spare rate and maintenance instructions.
10. When not to choose each product
Do not choose D47 when
- the project is an overhead decorative array with no vehicle-specific need;
- the ride manufacturer has not approved the lighting modification;
- length, 60-pixel count and 43.2W value are not paired for the ordered version;
- brackets, connectors and cables cannot survive the defined vibration/impact environment.
Do not choose D40 when
- a bumper-car impact zone requires evidence the current page does not provide;
- exact IP, material, pixel pitch, IC and controller are still placeholders;
- the project needs a published mechanical load or secondary-retention design that has not been supplied;
- RGBW is selected without a verified white specification and control workflow.
Do not approve either when
- the quote contains only tube price without controllers, supplies, mounts, cable, commissioning and spares;
- power is treated as one unfused run;
- IP is extended to the whole system without evidence;
- no safe replacement and fault-recovery procedure exists;
- decorative effects conflict with safe ride operation or emergency lighting.

FAQ
Is D47 automatically more impact-resistant because it is thicker?
No. Diameter is not an impact or ride-safety rating. Obtain mechanical evidence and approve the installed sample.
Does every D47 length have 60 pixels and use 43.2W?
The reviewed page lists those values together with four lengths but does not pair them. Confirm the exact ordered version [S1].
How many pixels are in ten metres of D40?
Unknown from the reviewed page. It publishes 28.8W/m but not pixel pitch or pixels/m [S2].
Is 24V always better than 12V?
No. In these examples it reduces current for a given wattage, but product format, load, cable, control, mounting and application differ.
Should a suspended installation use RGBW?
Choose RGBW only when dedicated white scenes are required and the CCT, CRI, output, power and controller workflow pass the sample.
Can the tube power cable carry its weight?
Not unless the released design explicitly rates it as a load-bearing suspension. Use approved support and secondary retention.
Does IP66/IP65 mean no additional weather work is needed?
No. The complete installed system includes ends, connectors, boxes, penetrations and damage/service states [S5].
Can lighting be added to an existing ride without redesign?
Do not assume so. Obtain manufacturer and qualified local approval; electrical and mechanical changes may affect the ride's design basis [S4].
