Before You Quote a Pixel LED Ceiling, Clarify What One Pixel Means

Start with the effect, not the square metres

If you want separate colour points, flowing colour or simple patterns across a commercial ceiling, start with a pixel-light sample bay. LIKELIGHT lists a 35 × 35 mm, DC24V UCS2904 RGB pixel module at 0.96 W per piece and 20 pieces per strand. The product page names ceilings as one possible use.

If you want an even white ceiling with no visible points or animation, a pixel grid may add control and wiring without improving the result. Compare a continuous light surface or concealed linear light instead.

Before you ask for a project price, resolve one detail: the model string contains “RGBW,” while the same product page's colour field says “Full RGB.” Ask LIKELIGHT to confirm the actual ordered version, what the controller addresses as one pixel, and which drawing and connector match it. Do not freeze quantity until that answer is written down.

What one pixel means on this product

A pixel is the smallest light point the controller can command as one unit. LIKELIGHT's product description says four SMD3535 LEDs make one pixel. That means the ceiling's animation resolution should be planned in controller-addressable points, not by multiplying the LED count by four.

Ask the supplier to demonstrate one module with the intended controller and show how many addresses it uses. The product page does not specify controller model, pinout, a recommended ceiling pitch, or a coverage-per-square-metre rule. Its 35 mm body size is not the recommended distance between module centres.

The page also lists 24V, 0.96 W per piece, 20 pieces per strand, UCS2904 and IP68. Treat these as published starting facts for the listed family; confirm the exact combination on the quotation and sample. The RGB/RGBW wording needs clarification before the order is frozen.

Approve a sample bay before multiplying the layout

Choose a small section that includes a typical ceiling area, an edge, and any service opening that matters. Use the actual ceiling finish and planned viewing positions. Review the lights from directly below and from the places where people will approach or sit.

Try the smallest pattern, text or colour transition the project actually needs. Ask: can people distinguish the points as intended, is the pattern legible from the normal view, and can an installer reach a connection or replace one module later? Approve the colour mode and controller mapping, not only a factory preset.

After approval, put point spacing, row and column counts, physical sequence, controller setup, RGB/RGBW version and service access on one drawing. The sample and drawing must match. If they do not, the quotation is still based on an unsettled design.

A rough count for an early budget

This is a teaching calculation, not a customer project or product spacing recommendation. Assume a 4 m × 3 m ceiling, or 12 m², and a buyer-selected 300 mm grid pitch in both directions. A rough interior estimate is:

12 m² ÷ (0.30 m × 0.30 m) ≈ 133 pixel points.

At the published 0.96 W per piece, 134 modules represent about 128.6 W. Dividing by 24 V gives about 5.36 A before cable loss, design margin, control equipment and zoning. If the quote is only available in complete 20-piece strands, seven strands provide 140 modules, or six nominal spares.

This helps compare budget scope, but it is not a power-supply selection or final take-off. Edges, cut-outs, access panels and the approved grid change the quantity. The 300 mm pitch is an assumption, not a LIKELIGHT specification. Ask whether the quotation is for whole strands or an exact project count.

Compare the full ceiling scope

A useful quote separates the exact light-point version and quantity; a dimensioned ceiling plan and point map; controller and mapping file; cable, connectors and power zones; mounting and replacement access; and the sample, programming, spares and delivery terms.

The published wattage helps estimate connected load. It does not prove that one feed can supply the whole ceiling or determine the power supply. Those decisions need the final point count, cable routes, controller and approved power-zone plan.

What to ask LIKELIGHT to return

Request the exact SKU and valid option matrix, a written RGB or RGBW confirmation, the number of addressable pixels per module, and dimensioned layout and wiring drawings. Ask for the full bill of materials, sample plan, acceptance points, matching spares, and an itemised project price covering lights, controller, cables, power supplies and mounting parts.

The sample plan should state which ceiling finish and viewing positions it represents, what pattern will be tested, and how colour, spacing, service access and replacement will be approved. Lead time is a quote-specific item to confirm, not a promise made by the public product page.

When a pixel ceiling is the wrong starting point

Do not start with pixel modules if the brief is for smooth white illumination with no visible dots and no animation. A grid may increase control, wiring and commissioning work without serving the requested effect. Ask for a continuous-light option to compare.

Also pause if the RGB/RGBW version, controller map, ceiling layout, mounting method or power zones are unresolved. Use a sample to close those decisions before multiplying a module price into the whole-project budget.

Buyer questions

Does a 35 mm module mean 35 mm pixel spacing?

No. The 35 mm figure is the listed module body size. Choose centre spacing from the ceiling layout, viewing positions and approved sample.

Are all four LEDs controlled separately?

The product description associates four LEDs with one pixel. Have the ordered version demonstrated with the intended controller before calculating address count.

Is this RGB or RGBW?

The SKU string includes RGBW, while the colour field says Full RGB. Ask for the ordered colour version in writing and approve it on the sample.

Does 24V and 0.96W determine the power-supply size?

No. It provides an early load estimate. Final supply and feed zones depend on confirmed quantity, cable routes, controller and design margin.

Does IP68 prove the whole ceiling assembly is protected?

No. The page lists IP68 for the module. It does not establish connector, power-supply, controller, ceiling-cavity or completed-system protection.

FAQPage

Does a 35 mm module mean 35 mm pixel spacing?

No. The product page gives the module body size, not a recommended grid pitch. Set pitch from the ceiling geometry, view positions and sample.

Are all four LEDs independently controlled?

The product description says four LEDs form one pixel. Demonstrate the exact ordered version and controller mapping before counting control addresses.

Is this RGB or RGBW?

The model string contains RGBW while the colour field says Full RGB. Confirm the ordered version in writing and on the sample.

Does 24V and 0.96W determine the supply?

It supports an early load estimate only. Final supply and feed zones depend on the confirmed layout, cable routes, controller and project margin.

Does IP68 approve the whole ceiling?

No. It is the module rating listed on the page; connectors, supplies, controller, ceiling cavity and assembly need separate review.
