Buying COB Strips for Adjacent Retail Shelves: Match Reels Before Fixing the Batch
Buying COB Strips for Adjacent Retail Shelves: Match Reels Before Fixing the Batch
LikeLight Tom · Operations · Technical reviewer: pending confirmation
Approve one white strip version, a reel-matching plan and the final diffuser before buying the shelf-lighting batch and service stock.
Buy for the visible row
For adjacent shelves that should read as one white-lit display, start with an approved fixed-white L-S-COB sample and a written reel-matching scope, not mixed reels selected by CCT alone.
Will several shelves be visible together?
Send a shelf section, lengths, desired white and destination. Request paired samples and a written matching scope.
Request Matching SamplesChoose white on the actual shelf and goods, then approve strip, diffuser and operating scene together. If matching scope is undocumented, compare paired samples before releasing the batch.
For animated decoration instead of consistent merchandise white, review another appropriate strip configuration.
More functions do not solve a white-match requirement automatically.
What a 3000 K label leaves out
Nominal CCT alone does not ensure matching whites [S2]. CCT and Duv are more informative together [S4]. Agree a matching method instead of treating the Kelvin label as a guarantee.
Ask what bin or measured-colour scope is actually available. Do not assume “3 SDCM means invisible” or claim LIKELIGHT already provides it: the reviewed page does not establish an ordered tolerance.
Similar source white can still render goods differently because of spectra [S3]. Examine a neutral background and difficult merchandise in the final profile, not just the bare emitting surface.
Initial consistency differs from colour stability over time [S2]. Original stock supports traceability; it does not guarantee that a new spare will forever match an aged shelf.
Turn the public family into one approved option
L-S-COB lists white options, multiple PCB widths and IP20 [S1]. It is a starting point for dry indoor shelf samples, not one released SKU or a confirmed matching-bin programme.
| Quote input | Decision it supports |
|---|---|
| Exact SKU/revision, white target and valid electrical option | Keep different-looking or differently wired versions out of the order |
| Available bin/colour evidence, conditions and tolerance | Define acceptance across delivered reels |
| Profile/diffuser, orientation and operating scene | Compare the actual shelf appearance |
| Lot/reel labels and replacement policy | Identify the approved group and its service stock |
Power, width, voltage and cut units need approved pairings. IP20 does not approve condensation or wash-down exposure. Do not infer reel length from the family page.
Approve a paired shelf sample
- Request two independently identified reel samples from the intended supply scope, plus any proposed substitute. An unlabelled sample is not a batch reference.
- Install equal lengths in identical profiles and diffusers. Use intended settings and record feed conditions.
- Compare the receiving surface and goods at shopper distance. Swap sample positions to separate source differences from installation differences.
- If measurement and appearance disagree, check method and assembly. Qualified personnel check unequal electrical conditions before blaming the bin.
- Record SKU, lot/reel IDs, diffuser, conditions, agreed tolerance and visual acceptance. Keep a labelled reference and approve delivery/reserve scope explicitly.
Photos record the setup, not colour measurement. Automatic camera exposure and white balance cannot replace the agreed acceptance method.
Worked allocation: reserve a matched group
Teaching assumptions, not a customer case: eight adjacent shelves need one unjoined 2.25 m strip each. Assume approved cut feasibility and hypothetical 5 m reels of the same released version. Neither length is confirmed by this listing.
Installed length =8×2.25=18 m. Pieces/reel =floor(5/2.25)=2. Installation reels =ceil(8/2)=4:20 m purchased before agreed end allowances.
The buyer adds one hypothetical 5 m reserve reel: five reels,25 m total. Installed 18 m + installation offcuts 2 m + reserve 5 m =25 m. This is a teaching reserve decision, not a standard spare percentage.
| Allocation | Quantity | Buying implication |
|---|---|---|
| Installation group | 4 reels /20 m | Label the two shelf pieces from each reel |
| Uninstalled reserve | 1 reel /5 m | Ask for inclusion in the same agreed matching scope |
| Installed material | 8 pieces /18 m | Cut and end feasibility still require approval |
Approve matching across the five-reel scope, not only one attractive sample. Purchased 5 m length is not approval for a 5 m powered run.
With approved q W/m, installed lamp load is 18q W, excluding other loads; the stored reserve is not energised. Driver, feed and thermal requirements follow the actual electrical version, not 25 purchased metres.
Compare equivalent offers
| Offer | Required clarity | When it fits |
|---|---|---|
| CCT-only reels | Exact SKU; no extra matching guarantee implied | When sample and project tolerance make it acceptable |
| Identified matching group | Available method/tolerance, labels and acceptance | When adjacent shelves must read as one display |
| Later replacement supply | Reference, version and comparison/rejection route | When phased delivery or maintenance is planned |
“Same lot” is traceability, not a test result. Conversely, separated displays do not always justify a premium matching specification. Select the scope that the accepted assembly needs.
Full cost includes strip, profile/diffuser, drivers/control, feeds/connectors, sample checks, installation, labelled spares, delivery and replacement work. No prices establish a cheaper route here.
Ask LIKELIGHT for a release-ready quotation
- Fixed-white SKU and valid width/voltage/power/cut configuration.
- Available matching evidence, test conditions, tolerances and acceptance/rejection process.
- Shelf BOM, reel-to-shelf allocation and labelled reserve options, with supply boundaries.
- Paired-sample plan, prices/exclusions, confirmed MOQ/delivery/warranty and later-substitution policy.
These are requested deliverables, not existing service or stock commitments. If later exact matching cannot be supported, agree whether replacement covers one shelf or the visually connected row.
FAQ
Is the same 3000 K label enough?
No. Agree the exact version and matching criteria, then compare the delivered scope in the final shelf assembly.
Does Ra>90 guarantee matching neighbouring reels?
No. A rendering claim is not the matching specification. Request colour evidence and visual acceptance separately.
Must every reel come from one lot?
Lot traceability helps but does not guarantee matching. Compare actual delivery; different lots require evaluation, not automatic rejection or approval.
Can different drivers or diffusers affect the result?
Control the assembly and settings. Swap positions and check electrical/installation conditions before changing the product specification.
Will stored stock always match an old shelf?
No permanent match is established. Compare with the aged row and agree the visually acceptable replacement unit.
