Connector capacity depends on contact resistance, current, ambient, wire size, loaded contacts, aging and heat dissipation.

Calculation

P=I²R. Illustrative: 12 A at 5 mΩ gives 0.72 W; at 20 mΩ it gives 2.88 W. These are not product results.

Validation

  1. Freeze all part numbers and wire.
  2. Control crimp and mating.
  3. Measure current, millivolt drop and temperature rise.
  4. Retest after environmental conditioning.

Do not approve

  • Generic current rating only.
  • Unspecified hand crimping.
  • Corroded contacts are reused.
