High-CRI COB Strip for Retail Displays: What Ra>90 Does and Does Not Prove

Quick decision

Choose the target white by looking at actual merchandise against its background, then evaluate a COB sample. The family page lists white, RGB, RGBW and WS2811 alternatives; it does not establish the same Ra, power or two-wire connector for all of them. Mock up two candidate whites in the final profile, examine difficult reds and neutrals, and check close-range glare before fixing a purchasable version.

Published facts and evidence boundary

Parameter Published or derived value
Family L-S-COB; white range 2700K–6500K; RGB, RGBW, WS2811 also listed
Colour/beam Ra>90 and 180 degrees stated; no R9 or TM-30 report for the ordered option
Construction choices PCB 5/8/10/12mm; 320/360/480/528/720/840 LEDs/m
Electrical choices DC12V or DC24V; 7/8/9/10/12/14W/m, without pairings
Installation IP20; 25mm or 83mm cut options; two-pin power-only cable listed
Budget example Hypothetical 6m across the listed 7–14W/m options is 42–84W of lamp load, not one SKU's adjustable range

Ra>90 is a shortlist criterion, not a merchandise-colour guarantee

Ra averages colour-fidelity results; it cannot by itself describe saturated reds, dyed textiles or a particular brand hue. CIE notes that Ra does not always track viewers' judgements, while hue-specific data can add information. The page's Ra>90 statement is not an R9 or TM-30 report for every ordered variant.

Put the hardest merchandise, real shelf backing and a competing lamp side by side at the intended illuminance and customer distance. Examine reds, skin tones and neutrals. If the product still looks wrong, change CCT or light source; adding more LEDs cannot repair the spectral rendering of that source.

Specify CCT, profile depth and light direction together

The family page lists whites from 2700K to 6500K and a 180-degree viewing angle. It does not demonstrate that each CCT has identical Ra, PCB width, density or power. A broad emission angle also does not guarantee no glare or reflected hot line once the strip is mounted in a shelf.

Fit the selected 5/8/10/12mm PCB in the intended channel and diffuser. Look for exposed source at the front lip and mirrored streaks on products. If a nearby shopper sees glare, move or shield the source before calling the continuous COB line comfortable.

Turn a family power list into a conditional budget

The page lists 7 through 14W/m as options. For an illustrative 6m total, the endpoints give 6×7=42W and 6×14=84W of lamp load. This is a procurement envelope across options, not one dimmable 42–84W SKU. DC12V and DC24V are also alternatives, not automatically paired with every W/m figure.

Once a white sample fixes its W/m and voltage, estimate total current as power ÷ voltage. Divide feeds using route length, conductor size and connector load, then measure the longest loaded end. Keep the strip lit in its final profile long enough to inspect enclosure heating, not just a loose bench reel.

A two-pin white cable is not the WS2811 interface

The family page lists a two-pin power-only cable and WS2811 separately; it does not make them the same SKU. Fixed white needs appropriate constant-voltage supply and dimming. A programmable version needs an identified IC, data direction, pixel grouping and actual connector pinout.

The 25mm and 83mm cutting lengths are options too, not both marks on every version. Test the ordered PCB's real copper pads and lead exit around shelf corners; otherwise a trimmed piece may lack a safe connection. A control segment is not a cutting unit without evidence.

Keep IP20 in a controlled dry display

IP20 on the page is a starting point for a dry indoor shelf, not a wash-down food counter, wet cooler or exterior sign. Cleaning-fluid routes, exposed metal edges, cable pull and access to replace a small section still affect the installation.

Run the sample in the real channel and supply position, noting product temperature, strip backing and loaded end voltage. If wash-down is required, adding clear tape to an IP20 strip is not a verified protection upgrade; select a system with the necessary evidence.

Conditional project decision table

Project condition Decision and evidence
Fabric, leather or food must read accurately Test real goods under selected white CCT; Ra>90 only starts the shortlist.
Only promotional coloured backdrop Compare RGB/RGBW with separate merchandise white; colour effects are not task lighting.
Dry shelf or display cabinet Evaluate IP20 and test glare and backing heat in the final profile.
Wet cooler or wash-down surface IP20 does not prove the installed system protected.
Many shelves totalling 6m or more Use confirmed W/m and voltage to divide feeds; 42–84W is not one SKU's dimming range.
Per-segment effects Order the WS2811 data interface and pixel definition separately from a two-pin white cable.

The LIKELIGHT L-S-COB retail sample

This COB family offers a white range, an Ra>90 claim, continuous-light appearance and PCB width options from 5 to 12mm. It is a useful source of a dry-display white sample that can actually fit the shelf profile. Testing merchandise, backing and diffuser together reveals whether the chosen CCT and shielding serve the selling task.

It is not a complete purchase specification for wash-down protection, for assumed Ra on every RGBW variant, or for an invented combination of width, watts and 25mm cuts. Put the tested construction and its measurements on one purchase line before scale-up.

Information required before quotation

  • merchandise and hardest colours with shelf backing
  • two candidate white CCTs and sample photographs
  • actual profile, diffuser and recess depth
  • final PCB width, density and marked cut points
  • chosen W/m, DC12V or DC24V, and branch lengths
  • fixed-white dimming or WS2811 animation
  • dry/wet exposure and cleaning method
  • sample quantity, production volume and timing

These inputs tie merchandise colour, shielding, the ordered electrical specification and maintainability to one testable sample rather than quoting from Ra>90 and a family-wide menu.

Frequently asked questions

Does Ra>90 guarantee attractive red merchandise?

No average score can guarantee a specific red; compare real merchandise and request hue data for the chosen white variant if needed.

Is 7–14W/m one strip's dimming range?

No. The page lists power options; fix the ordered variant first.

Can WS2811 use the two-pin power-only cable?

Do not infer that from the family page; establish the programmable data interface.

Is IP20 adequate for a cooler or outdoors?

Not from this rating alone; select for moisture, cleaning and the complete assembly.
