IP68 Neon Flex for Outdoor Projects: What Does a 14x14mm Light Actually Prove?

An IP68 label can create a false sense that the complete installation is ready for rain, fountains or immersion. In practice, the neon body, end caps, cable exits, connectors, controller or driver, mounting and drainage form one system, and the least protected component can define the failure point.

The LIKELIGHT page provides useful starting facts for model L-NH-1414, but it does not publish immersion depth, duration, bending radius, power or connector construction. This guide explains what the published facts support and what an OEM buyer must freeze before ordering.

Published product facts

Published item Value
Model L-NH-1414
Outer body / PCB 14x14mm / 10mm
Input DC5V
LED density 30 LEDs/m
Length 5m or customised
Protection / documents IP68 / CE, RoHS / two-year warranty entry

Separate the IP68 neon body from the installed system

IP68 is the published product protection grade. It supports evaluation for demanding wet and outdoor conditions, but the rating alone does not define the tested depth, duration or the protection of a field-made joint.

Do not approve permanent immersion or a water feature from the IP code alone. Request the exact configuration, factory end treatment, cable exit, connector method and installation procedure that were covered by the product’s verification.

Use 30 LEDs/m to judge visible stepping

At 30 LEDs/m, uniform longitudinal distribution gives a theoretical LED pitch of 1000mm / 30 = 33.33mm. A standard 5m length would therefore contain 150 LEDs if that density applies continuously across the full length.

These figures describe emitter layout, not guaranteed visual uniformity. The 14x14mm optical body, diffuser material, bending direction, viewing distance and brightness determine whether a curve appears continuous or reveals bright steps.

Plan DC5V as a distributed low-voltage system

DC5V is published, but rated power is not. The current, supply size, cable gauge and feed spacing cannot be calculated from the page. A 5m or customised length is a mechanical option, not proof that one-end power will hold voltage across every configuration.

Measure the approved sample under the intended scene, then design fused supply zones with accessible connections. Record loaded voltage at the far end; line resistance, connectors and cable length remain relevant even when the neon body is sealed.

Project selection table

Project condition Decision direction Why
Outdoor contour Conditionally suitable Approve ends, connectors and mounting.
Water-edge detail Evaluate complete system Keep connections controlled and document exposure.
Permanent immersion Require specific verification IP68 alone does not publish depth or duration.
Smooth close-view curve Build a visual mock-up 33.33mm LED pitch may remain visible through the body.
Custom finished lengths Factory-finish the ends No field cutting unit is published.
DC5V supply Measure the approved sample Power and current are not published.

Match the 14x14mm body and 10mm PCB to the route

The product title publishes a 14x14mm outer form and the page lists a 10mm PCB. Those dimensions affect channel width, clip design, slot clearance, cable exit and the space needed at corners.

The bending axis and minimum bending radius are not published. Build the route with the actual sample, avoid twisting, and never force the neon through a corner detail copied from another profile size.

Freeze cuts, ends and connectors at the factory

The page offers a 5m or customised length but does not publish a field cutting unit. Do not infer a cutting position from 30 LEDs/m. The released drawing should identify finished lengths, factory seals, cable direction and any approved connection method.

For a wet installation, keep serviceable electrical connections in a controlled location whenever the project design allows. A sealed body cannot compensate for an unverified cut, end cap or connector.

Where the LIKELIGHT L-NH-1414 fits

The published configuration combines a 14x14mm flexible neon body, 10mm PCB, DC5V, 30 LEDs/m, 5m or customised length, IP68, a two-year warranty entry, and CE/RoHS entries. It can be evaluated for outdoor contours, wet landscape details and protected water-edge applications when the complete connection and mounting system is approved.

It is not a priority fit for a project demanding a certified permanent-immersion depth, an unverified tight bend, field cutting without released positions, or supply sizing without a measured load. LIKELIGHT can freeze the length and end construction on the sample order.

Suitable when

  • Outdoor contours with factory-finished ends
  • Wet landscape details with controlled connections
  • Custom-length projects able to approve a sample route

Re-evaluate when

  • Permanent immersion without depth and duration evidence
  • Tight bends without a published radius or sample test
  • Field cutting based only on LED density

What an OEM order must define

Provide the route drawing, finished length of every piece, closest viewing distance, bend direction, mounting channel or clips, wet exposure, expected immersion if any, cable exit, connector location, DC5V supply location, quantity, labels, sample test and delivery schedule.

These inputs convert “IP68 neon flex” into a buildable system definition. The sample record should include the approved curve, end construction, connection method, loaded voltage and visual result before mass production.

  • Route and finished piece lengths
  • Viewing distance and visual target
  • Bend direction and mounting hardware
  • Exposure and immersion requirement
  • Cable exit, connectors and DC5V supply
  • Quantity, labels, sample test and schedule

Frequently asked questions

Does IP68 guarantee permanent underwater use?

Not from the current page alone; depth, duration and the complete connection system require specific confirmation.

Can the neon be cut every 33.33mm?

No. That is theoretical LED pitch, not a published cutting unit.

How many LEDs are in a 5m piece?

At the published 30 LEDs/m, a uniform 5m length would contain 150 LEDs.

Can DC5V determine the power supply?

No. Rated power or measured current is still required.
