If the audience sees the narrow edge of a sign, start with the 4×10 side-emitting sample. If the luminous face points toward the audience, start with the 15×5 top-emitting sample. If the line is a visible object around a column or open structure, evaluate the D20 270° tube. A wider angle is not automatically brighter or better.
1. Draw the section before requesting a quote
A plan view alone cannot select neon flex. Add an installation section that shows:
- the illuminated face and main viewing direction;
- the surface to be washed, if any;
- the mounting groove, clip or channel;
- the intended bend plane and smallest curve;
- cable exits, end caps, joints and replacement access.
Side-emitting and top-emitting describe where light exits the silicone body; they do not prove which way the product may safely bend. The bending direction and minimum radius must come from the exact production drawing and sample.
2. What the official pages establish
The L-N0410 guide publishes multiple voltage and LED-density options [S1]. These are configuration choices, not proof that every voltage, density, color, control and waterproof structure can be combined. It also flags a waterproof-rating conflict: the title uses IP66 while details mention IP65/IP67/IP68 options. Freeze the final construction in the quotation.
The L-N1505 guide publishes a 15×5 mm top-lighting format, several LED packages, RGB/RGBW, multiple voltages and several IC options [S2]. The final pixel pitch and power are not fixed by the profile size.
The L-N-D20 product page publishes a 20 mm diameter, 270° output, several voltage/control options, customizable pixel pitch and 0.5–4 m custom lengths [S3]. This flexibility increases the need for a version-controlled order code.
The official neon category contains more formats [S4], so a buyer should not force one of these three if the section, bend or optical task needs another profile.
3. Twelve-metre physical LED-count example
For L-N0410, the published density options allow a transparent BOM comparison:

This table counts physical LEDs, not controllable pixels, cutting sections, brightness or power. Higher density may improve optical sampling, but the diffuser, LED spacing, mounting, color and viewing distance still decide whether the line appears uniform.

For a hypothetical 12 m digital line, define the control pitch before controller sizing:

5. Why wattage and feed spacing remain uncalculated
The reviewed evidence does not provide one verified W/m for each exact ordered combination. Therefore do not copy a wattage from another profile or voltage.

Then add the project-specific allowance for supply efficiency, derating, cable loss, controller load, branch protection and local rules. Voltage alone cannot establish feed spacing or maximum continuous run.

7. Compare installed system cost
Use one scope for all quotations:

A small profile may fit tighter details but increase handling difficulty. A round tube may create the desired object-like line but require larger brackets, packaging and replacement clearance. A custom long piece can reduce joints but increase shipping and service risk. Compare samples and complete BOMs, not roll price alone.
8. Sample acceptance workflow
- Verify model, profile size, voltage, color mode, LED package, IC and production revision.
- Measure the silicone section, clip/channel, end cap, connector and cable-exit envelope.
- Bend only in the approved plane and record the minimum demonstrated radius; stop on buckling, whitening or light discontinuity.
- Install a representative straight, smallest curve, corner/joint and actual background material.
- View from front, side, nearest and normal positions in day and night conditions.
- Test static white/color, slow gradients, chases, dimming, restart and required fault behavior.
- Measure branch start/end voltage and agreed-scene load with the final cable and connectors.
- Inspect seals, water path, strain relief, thermal condition and replacement access.
- Freeze the golden sample, drawing, order code, controller file, BOM and acceptance record.
9. When not to choose these formats
- Do not choose side-emitting neon when the required luminous face points directly toward the viewer and cannot be rotated.
- Do not choose top-emitting neon when only the narrow edge may be exposed.
- Do not choose a 270° tube where spill light, glare or hidden-fixture detailing is the main constraint.
- Do not force any profile around a curve without approved bend direction and radius.
- Do not treat LEDs/m as pixels/m or cutting sections/m.
- Do not specify IP from a title when the exact construction and field joints are unresolved.
- Do not order a digital version before confirming IC, controller, mapping and fault behavior.
10. Information needed for a comparable quotation
- Dimensioned artwork, elevation and installation cross-section.
- Total and segment lengths, smallest radius and bend plane.
- Front/side viewing directions and nearest/normal distances.
- Surface color, ambient brightness and desired day/night appearance.
- Static, RGB or RGBW effect; animation speed and zones.
- Candidate 4×10, 15×5 or D20 format, or request for two samples.
- Voltage, W/m, LEDs/m, pixels/m, cutting unit and maximum custom length.
- Controller/interface, output limits, pixel grouping and required fault response.
- Indoor/outdoor exposure, full-system IP, UV/salt/cleaner conditions and drainage.
- Quantity, accessories, certification market, samples, MOQ, delivery and spare policy.
11. Copy-ready inquiry

FAQ
Is side-emitting neon better than top-emitting neon?
Neither is universally better. The correct choice puts the luminous face toward the intended viewer or surface while respecting the approved bend plane.
Does 144 LEDs/m mean 144 controllable pixels/m?
No. It is a physical LED count. Pixel grouping depends on the selected digital configuration.
Is 270° automatically brighter than 120°?
No. Angle does not prove total output or intensity in the target direction. CIE-style photometric evidence and a sample are needed [S5].
Can all L-N0410 versions be treated as IP66?
Do not assume so. The official guide notes IP66 in the title and IP65/IP67/IP68 options in details [S1]; freeze the exact construction.
How many pixels are needed for 12 m at 100 mm control pitch?
The planning result is 120 pixels. Confirm that the ordered product actually provides that grouping and cutting structure.
Can one controller run all three formats?
Only if the exact digital versions, timing, color order, voltage/interface and port limits are compatible. Profile shape alone says nothing about controller compatibility.
Can the neon be bent in any direction?
No. Obtain the approved bend plane and minimum radius for the exact version; twisting or wrong-plane bending can damage the line.
What makes two quotations comparable?
Use the same drawing, emission direction, bend path, color/control version, W/m, accessories, installation scope, certification and delivery terms.
