Visible 50mm RGB Pixel String or Continuous Light Strip for Outdoor Décor?

Imagine a shopping-centre entrance that needs colour moving around a curved feature. The drawing says only “RGB lighting”, but the purchase hinges on a more visible choice: should visitors see separate points travelling along the curve, or one uninterrupted luminous edge? Choose a pixel string when the points belong in the design. If the gaps must also glow, begin with a continuous strip or neon-style line. “Programmable” alone does not settle the appearance.

Quick answer

  • Visible points: A pixel string leaves intentional dark intervals for dotted patterns and node-by-node chases.
  • Unbroken outline: Compare continuous strip or neon-style lighting; equally coloured nodes do not merge into a line.
  • Two viewing moments: Inspect the cable and fixtures by day, then the gaps and animation from the real viewing position at night.

If you already know whether you want visible points or an unbroken outline, send LIKELIGHT a site sketch and viewing position to discuss a sample direction. You need not guess pitch or controller capacity first.

Does the design call for dots or a line?

On the same entrance curve, a string reads as separate visible nodes; a linear source reads first as an edge. Both can change colour. The distinction is whether the space between light sources is meant to stay dark.

Keep the string when the gaps strengthen a dotted or chasing composition. If they break a required continuous outline, compare linear products. This clear node exposes seven LEDs, so its daytime appearance deserves a sample check too.

What do curves and spacing change?

Flexible string mounting lets nodes follow a non-straight route, with mounting ears visible on the node. The published 50mm is the node size, not the gap. String length is described as customizable, while Pixel Pitch has no value.

Mark the intended node positions, turns, cable route and service access first. Only after a pitch is agreed can approximate nodes per metre be estimated as 1000mm divided by that pitch in millimetres; do not insert 50mm. A strip remains viable where its channel can follow the curve.

Why not order a power supply by length alone?

This model is DC24V, but the page leaves Power Consumption blank. Current follows the actual load, while losses in cable and connectors also depend on current and the circuit. Voltage alone cannot establish a feeding distance.

Set the visible node layout, then obtain power and cable/connector data for that configuration before sizing supplies and circuits. A customizable string length is not a promise that one end can power the entire installation.

Do seven LEDs mean seven control points?

Seven describes LEDs inside each 50mm node. The page separately specifies UCS1903 addressable control. Cascaded data follows string order; verify how each node responds with the proposed controller and programme.

Demonstrate a colour travelling from first to last node, then a solid colour across the string. Compare sequence and the still-visible gaps. A successful chase does not turn dots into an unbroken line, nor prove one DMX address per node.

Where does outdoor protection stop?

The page lists IP65 and flexible string mounting; the product image shows a clear round node and mounting ears. A fixture rating does not transfer automatically to field joints, ends or the power unit. Flexible cable is not a suspension rating.

At rain- or splash-exposed sites, plan connectors, supply placement, drainage and access together. In a dry indoor setting, still select by the desired light shape. For close daylight viewing, assess the clear body, cable and fixing details.

Compare both looks on the same curve

If the gaps make the moving-point design clearer, sample the visible pixel string. If they fragment the outline, start with a continuous strip. This test yields no unpublished pitch, wattage or controller capacity.

Imagine a curved entrance feature viewed mainly from the pedestrian approach. The intended effect is coloured points moving along it. No curve length, node pitch or completed customer project is assumed; this is a category comparison.

Same outline, same viewing position

  1. In daylight

    Decision under the same conditions
Inspect node bodies, mounting ears, cable and any proposed channel.

    Better direction
Keep exposed points only when that appearance is intended.

  2. Solid colour at night

    Decision under the same conditions
Look for dark intervals and whether the edge remains legible.

    Better direction
Choose a continuous line when every section must glow.

  3. Chase at night

    Decision under the same conditions
Run the proposed controller from first node to last.

    Better direction
Proceed to quantity and electrical design only when order and gaps fit.

Where the LIKELIGHT 50mm string fits

The clear round node is published as 50mm with seven SMD5050 RGB LEDs per node, DC24V, UCS1903, IP65 and flexible string mounting; string length is customizable. The main image shows the unlit node and a second same-product original shows several nodes glowing green. It is a candidate for commercial outdoor décor that deliberately displays separate points, subject to accepting the actual sample spacing and view.

Do not buy it as a frosted bulb, a uniform 360° emitter or a gap-free strip. Pixel Pitch and Power Consumption have no published values here, so nodes per metre, total load and feeding distance cannot be calculated. IP65 does not automatically cover site joints or the supply; design their exposure and drainage too.

What to send first

  1. Site sketch or photoShow the curve, turns and fixing surface.
  2. Approximate path and quantityDefine the area to lay out with actual nodes.
  3. Viewing point and effectDistinguish moving dots from an unbroken outline.
  4. Exposure to rainLocate joints, supply protection and drainage needs.

Send these four inputs to LIKELIGHT to compare product types and samples first. An agreed pitch, node count, power and controller can then support a checkable system quote; a first-time buyer need not guess capacity.

Questions buyers ask

Is 50mm the node spacing?

No. It is the node size; the page has no usable Pixel Pitch value for counting nodes.

Can seven LEDs show seven independent colours?

The page does not define seven control pixels. Verify node response in the proposed programme.

Does IP65 waterproof the entire site installation?

No. Field joints, ends and the power unit require their own site-specific design.

Can I calculate load and feed distance now?

Not from this page. Obtain final node count and power before designing supplies and cables.
