How to Choose a DC12V or DC24V Addressable RGB LED Strip: Pixel Density and Voltage-Drop Guide
A practical UCS1903/WS2811 RGB strip comparison for choosing pixel density, current and protection options by project conditions.

Start with viewing distance and effect
A programmable RGB strip is often selected too early by voltage alone. In a retail display, a close architectural detail or a cove where people stand nearby, the key question is how finely the animation must change. In a long outline or a larger decorative zone, overall colour flow, power circuits and service access can be more important than the smallest possible pixel pitch.
Published configurations of this model
For this model, the published DC12V version is 60 LEDs/m, 20 pixels/m and three LEDs per control segment. The published DC24V version is 60 LEDs/m, 10 pixels/m and six LEDs per control segment. Voltage itself does not determine pixel density; circuit design, LED grouping and the selected product configuration do.
That gives about 50 mm pixel pitch for DC12V: 1000 mm divided by 20 pixels. The DC24V version is about 100 mm: 1000 mm divided by 10 pixels. In this model, 20 pixels/m can be evaluated where finer chasing and closer viewing are important. The 10 pixels/m option can be evaluated where a broader moving line is sufficient. These are configuration-specific comparisons, not a universal DC12V or DC24V rule.
Power, current and voltage drop
The product page states a rated power of 14.4W/m. Using that rated value, DC12V is 14.4W/m divided by 12V, or 1.2A/m; DC24V is 14.4W/m divided by 24V, or 0.6A/m. For a 5 m reel, 5 m multiplied by 14.4W/m equals 72W: about 6A at DC12V or 3A at DC24V.
These are theoretical values based on published rated power. Actual consumption changes with brightness setting, RGB colour combination, animation content and controller programme. Power circuits should be divided by the approved layout; do not read the total current as a single-supply recommendation.
With comparable line length and resistance, voltage drop can be understood as current multiplied by line resistance. At the same rated power, the DC24V version uses less current, so absolute line-voltage loss is normally lower. PCB copper, cable gauge, connectors and feed position still change the result. The practical project check is a loaded-voltage measurement at the far end of each circuit.
Cascade-pixel control and cutting
UCS1903/WS2811 is a cascaded programmable-pixel method. The useful planning items are pixel count, control segment, data direction, controller-port allocation, data mapping and controller compatibility. A control segment is not automatically a cutting unit. This product may be cut or joined only at the marked copper pads; do not derive a cutting length from the three- or six-LED grouping. Confirm the final UCS1903 or WS2811 configuration before sampling or mass production.
PCB, installation and protection
The page lists a 10 mm PCB, black or white PCB options, 5 m standard length, regular 2 Oz copper and optional 3 Oz copper. Heavier copper can be considered with circuit current, resistance and operating heat, but it does not replace sensible circuit splitting and power-feed planning. IP30 suits dry indoor conditions where the structure is appropriate. IP65 or IP67 can be evaluated for moisture, splash or outdoor exposure according to the complete installation. Ends, field connectors, cable exits and drainage need their own design attention. The 10 mm PCB should also be checked against the selected profile, clips, connector body and corner treatment before installation.

LIKELIGHT product fit
LIKELIGHT supplies the published RGB SMD5050 DC12V/DC24V UCS1903/WS2811 configurations with 60 LEDs/m, 14.4W/m rated power, a 120-degree beam angle and 5 m standard length. In this model, the DC12V 20 pixels/m version can be evaluated for closer viewing and finer chasing, while the DC24V 10 pixels/m version can be evaluated for broader colour flow and lower current at the same rated power. It can fit studios, leisure, residential, hospitality, events and retail displays when the viewing distance, required effect and installation conditions are aligned.

Information needed before quotation
For an accurate quotation or sample review, provide total installation length, the length of each zone, primary viewing distance, a target animation or effect reference, operating environment, protection target, controller information, PCB colour, cable and connector direction, plus the required delivery date or sampling need. These inputs allow the pixel version, circuit arrangement and connection details to be evaluated against the actual project.
