White COB or RGB+CCT Strips for Hotel Coves? Buy the Scenes Guests Actually Need

White COB or RGB+CCT Strips for Hotel Coves? Buy the Scenes Guests Actually Need

LikeLight Tom · Operations · Technical reviewer: pending confirmation

Start with daily white, not extra colours. Compare fixed-white COB and analog RGB+CCT by room scenes, cove fit, controls and service kits before a multi-room order.

Decide in 30 seconds

If guestrooms need one approved daily white plus dimming, start with a fixed-white L-S-COB sample.

If a lounge or themed suite genuinely needs adjustable white and occasional whole-zone colour, sample analog L-S-RGBWWW.

Choose your cove sample before repeating rooms

Send room count, cove dimensions and destination. Request a representative daily-white or white-plus-colour sample.

Request a Sample

Do not pay for colour control merely because the family also lists RGB or programmable options.

Approve its daily white scene first, then its colour scene and restore-to-white action.

For repeated rooms, freeze the guest interface and service kit before volume. Hold the firm quote without the cove section, daily scene or controller interface.

Resolve L-S-RGBWWW's 10 mm-title/12 mm-table conflict before choosing a profile.

Three buying tasks—not claimed customer cases

A. A hotel contractor needs consistent daily white

The design specifies one white appearance across guestrooms. Begin with fixed-white COB and a suitable dimming interface. Put the actual wall paint, timber and fabric next to the sample at the intended viewing angle.

Choose the ordered CCT/bin and low-level behaviour together. A continuous-looking source does not prove a comfortable cove after reflection or at bedside height.

B. A hospitality operator needs occasional brand colour

A lounge needs ordinary white for normal service and a uniform coloured backdrop for events. L-S-RGBWWW is a candidate; its connected analog zone changes together, not as individually animated pixels.

Give staff a limited scene set and a clear return-to-daily-white action. If events never use colour, compare a simpler white solution rather than commissioning unused RGB channels.

C. An OEM repeats rooms and maintains them later

The buyer wants the same accepted appearance and a practical replacement kit. Mark power/control zones, lead exits and removable segments on the room drawing.

Ask for matching strip, connectors and controller settings as a service package. A cheap replacement reel can lose its value if its white bin, pinout or settings differ from the approved room.

Why white appearance and control change the choice

Fixed-white dimming changes intensity; do not assume it automatically warms the white as it dims. White tuning and dim-to-warm are different functions [S3]. This comparison selects the use case, not a medical or sleep benefit.

Warm/cool channel percentages are not a linear Kelvin calculator. White appearance depends on spectra and control; a labelled CCT alone cannot establish the same visual result. Compare finishes in the actual cove [S3].

Published starting point Fixed-white COB direction Analog RGB+CCT direction
Candidate L-S-COB family L-S-RGBWWW
Version boundary Choose a fixed-white SKU; family lists 2700–6500K RGB plus warm/cool white; no IC
Fit starting point 5/8/10/12 mm family choices Title 10 mm conflicts with body 12 mm
Power/control 7–14 W/m choices, not one dimming range 24 W/m listed; scene/channel maximum needs release

The COB family claims Ra>90; this is not a matching report for every listed colour or SKU [S1]. Obtain the selected white evidence and sample approval. The current DOE index lists TM-30-24 and TM-38-21 [S6]; no product test is implied.

Do not invent width/power/voltage/cut combinations from the family menu. RGB+CCT's 12 V and 24 V cuts also differ [S2]. Inspect the ordered copper marks and required corner links before approving finished lengths.

Use the analog RGB+CCT follow-up for channel/wiring questions. A BMS or DMX command needs the correct decoder/interface; it is not a native strip data input.

A 20-room calculation that reveals control scope

Teaching assumptions:20 rooms;8 m of cove per room; two independently controlled 4 m zones. Each zone has two removable 2 m pieces, if the approved cut and connector plan allows them.

Total net strip =20×8=160 m. Service pieces =20×2×2=80. These are planning units, not approved cut lengths, standard packages or proof that an 8 m strip may use one feed.

Planning quantity Fixed-white option Analog RGB+CCT option
Independent room zones 20×2=40 20×2=40
Illustrative PWM outputs 40×1=40 channels 40×5=200 channels
Per-room lamp budget Assume 10 W/m:8×10=80 W Listed 24 W/m basis:8×24=192 W
If approved 24 V, I=P/V 80/24≈3.33 A 192/24=8 A

The 10 W/m COB value is a teaching choice from the family list, not a released 24 V SKU. The 192 W RGB+CCT budget uses the published rating, not measured white-scene power or proof that all channels may run unrestricted.

PWM output counts are not DMX Universe counts or decoder-box quantities. Select devices by total and per-channel current, common wiring, firmware and allowed scene limits. Add control loads and actual supply derating/protection [S4].

Procurement meaning: both options light the same net length, but the second needs a larger control scope in this plan. Approve one room first, then revise cuts, feeds and outputs. Do not turn these unequal-load budgets into a savings claim.

Compare the same complete scope

Installed cost = strip + profile/diffuser + power + dimmer/decoder + cable/connectors/protection + installation/scene setup + matching service kits + freight.

Include one planned replacement and staff handover. Compare the accepted daily-white scene, not a reel price or maximum wattage. Prices, operating consumption and labour are unverified; no cheapest-system result is available.

Selection matrix

Decision Fixed-white COB Analog RGB+CCT
Visual task One approved white; brightness changes White tuning and uniform zone colour
Installation space Ordered width plus profile, ends and access Resolve 10/12 mm; allow multi-channel harness and profile
Supply/control Approved CV/dimming version and feeds Five-channel outputs; verify total/channel limits
Fault effect Depends on segment, dimmer and supply zones Shared control/supply can affect all colours in a zone
Maintenance Match white/bin, connectors and dimming Match whites, pinout, scene file and replacement unit
Complete cost White sample, profile and dimming scope Add colour setup, controls, training and matching spares

Neither family description establishes how far a control cable may run or the fault boundary of the installed room. Keep accessible leads and specify a real replacement demonstration.

What LIKELIGHT's quote should return

  • Exact white or RGB+CCT SKU/revision and valid voltage, power, width, cut and enclosure matrix.
  • Cove section, straight/corner dimensions, approved terminals and power/control-zone drawings.
  • Numbered BOM for strips, profiles, supplies, compatible dimmer/decoder, protection and matching service units.
  • Daily-white and colour sample plan, acceptance points, default scene and power-cycle/replacement checks.
  • Full system price/exclusions, sample and spares, packing allocation, MOQ, warranty, freight and confirmed lead time.

These are requested quotation outputs, not a claim that drawings, stock, delivery or commissioning services already exist.

Accept the room sample before replication

  1. Build a straight section, representative corner and accessible end in the intended cove, with the actual paint and finishes.
  2. Agree daily-white appearance, useful light, glare and low dimming. For RGB+CCT, also agree a colour scene and the return action.
  3. A qualified installer checks thermal mounting, worst approved scene current, far-end voltage and the exact dimmer/decoder interface.
  4. Restore power and replace an agreed piece through the access opening. Recheck scenes and colour match, then freeze the per-room BOM and limits.

The concept picture cannot replace this sample. IP is an enclosure classification [S5]; COB IP20 is not a verified wet-room, cleaning-splash or outdoor assembly.

When not to choose

Do not buy RGB+CCT for a white-only room with no colour task. If only tunable white is needed, ask whether a suitable white-tunable-only alternative exists; its SKU and availability require confirmation.

Do not choose the analog strip for per-pixel chases, infer “flicker-free” from COB construction, or force an unapproved bend. No final order without fit, thermal mounting, control and service access.

FAQ

Can the existing hotel controller drive either strip?

Check the supply/dimming interface, voltage, pinout, channel allocation and total/channel current. An RGB pixel controller is not an analog five-channel power output; test the actual ordered sample.

Is a signal amplifier needed?

Separate BMS/decoder communication from PWM load extension. A power repeater must match common wiring and channel current; neither it nor a data amplifier fixes voltage drop automatically.

What if the far end dims or changes white?

Do not exceed the approved input voltage. Check each loaded path, connectors and feeds. Estimate ΔV=I×R for the relevant loop, then measure the approved worst scene at the end.

Does breakpoint continuation apply here?

The selected fixed-white and analog RGB+CCT directions do not use a pixel data chain. “Breakpoint continuation” is not the relevant protection; agree power/control zones and a replaceable section.

Will RGB+CCT dimming automatically become warmer?

Not necessarily. White tuning and dim-to-warm need different control behaviour. Specify and test the intended intensity/white relation; do not average warm/cool Kelvin labels [S3].
