Will a 5 mm Pixel Strip Fit Your Narrow Sign Channel?

A sign channel can look wide enough for a 5 mm strip on paper, then reject the protected strip or its cable at installation. LIKELIGHT lists a 5 mm PCB with 200 controllable RGB pixels per metre. For a narrow, animated retail sign, start with this product as a sample candidate. Measure the usable channel opening and test a short wired piece before ordering all sign lengths.

Ask for a wired channel-fit sample

The 5 mm number is only the starting fit

The product page gives 5 mm as the PCB width. A silicone sleeve, adhesive, end cap, solder joint or cable exit can need more room. Share the channel’s clear inside width and depth, including its diffuser and corners. Ask for the finished cross-section and a sample with the same protection and connector that the order will use.

If the channel is already fabricated, do not order from the nominal PCB width. Try the wired sample inside a real piece of the channel. Check that it can be inserted without pinching the board and removed later for service.

Choose the visible effect before counting pixels

The page lists 200 LEDs and 200 pixels per metre. A pixel is a point that can change colour separately. At the listed density, the nominal spacing is 1,000 mm ÷ 200 = 5 mm between points. A dense strip can make a short animation smoother, but the diffuser depth and viewing distance decide whether guests see a continuous line or individual dots.

For a proposed 0.75 m lit section, 0.75 × 200 gives about 150 pixels before end leads and cut allowances. Use that as an early controller-count estimate, not a finished cut drawing. The page says it may be cut at copper tabs; request the actual drawing for your lengths and the exact APA102C or SK9822 control version.

Ask for one repeatable sign section

This is a 5 V product. The number of pixels does not tell you where power must enter a long or branching sign. Ask LIKELIGHT for the exact version’s current or power data, lead and connector drawing, controller wiring and feed plan for your layout. A desktop colour test will not show the far end of a full-length sign.

Build one representative section with the intended diffuser, bend and cable exit. Check dark gaps at cuts, colour at both ends, access for replacement and the appearance from the normal viewing position. Have the quote separate strip, control, power, connectors, protective build, channel accessories and spare length.

Questions buyers ask

Does a 5 mm PCB fit a 5 mm channel?

Not automatically. Ask for the finished protected cross-section and test the actual wired sample inside the channel.

Are 200 LEDs the same as 200 pixels?

This product page lists both figures per metre. Confirm the exact offered control version and test its response with the intended controller.

Can I order a 0.75 m piece from the calculation?

The estimate is about 150 pixels, but cut tabs, leads and end treatment determine the finished piece. Request a cut and wiring drawing.

Is the photographed strip ready for outdoors?

The page lists protection options, but the photo does not identify the final protected assembly. Confirm the ordered version and all joins for the exposure.

Send the channel, not a long specification sheet

Send the inside width and depth or a channel sketch, one representative run length, indoor or outdoor exposure, and destination country. Ask for the exact strip and protection version, a wired sample in the proposed channel, the controller and power plan, and a complete project quote.
