24V LED Sign Power: LRS in a Cabinet or HLG Outdoors?
A 24V sign can work on a bench and still fail as a project if its power supply is placed where rain, condensation or trapped heat will reach it. For a dry, protected sign cabinet, the LIKELIGHT-listed LRS-200 family may be a candidate after the installer checks the enclosure and destination market. For a supply mounted on an exposed facade, start with an appropriately rated HLG model instead. Choose the installation location first; then choose the exact 24V output and capacity.
This is a shortlist for a buyer, not an approval to substitute one model for another. LIKELIGHT lists both families, while the original MEAN WELL datasheets define what each exact model and suffix can do.
A protected cabinet changes the LRS question
The LRS-200 photo shows a metal mesh housing and accessible terminals. It belongs inside equipment that provides the required electrical protection and air space; the mesh is not a weather seal. Ask the installer whether the cabinet stays dry, has ventilation, can be serviced, and can accommodate the supply and its wiring. The LRS-200-24 is a 24V output model in MEAN WELL's datasheet, but its rated load still has to be checked against the actual light load and operating conditions.
Destination matters too. MEAN WELL's LRS-200 datasheet has a specific harmonic-current restriction for certain EU end devices and lighting systems. If your project is for the EU, have the exact end use and compliance documents reviewed before accepting LRS-200 in a lighting quote. Ask for the exact model documents before locking an EU specification.
An exposed supply changes the HLG question
The LIKELIGHT HLG gallery shows a family of enclosed drivers, not a single interchangeable model. MEAN WELL's HLG-240H datasheet lists a 24V output version. Its protection depends on the suffix: the blank and B types are listed as IP67, while A and AB are listed as IP65. IP is the body's resistance to dust and water entry under specified tests; it does not make open splices, connectors or the whole sign waterproof.
Do not order from the family photograph alone. Confirm the full model number, 24V output, load capacity, any dimming interface and the installation detail for cable entries and connections. A sealed driver may also need adequate heat dissipation where it is mounted. If the driver sits inside a truly protected cabinet, HLG may still be considered, but the enclosure, cost and service plan should drive the choice.
What to settle before repeating the order
Mark the supply location on a photo or drawing: dry cabinet, sheltered exterior box, or exposed facade. Then provide the light's rated 24V load and quantity, destination country, and whether dimming is required. Those four inputs let LIKELIGHT discuss a specific LRS or HLG candidate and ask for the right manufacturer documents. The electrical installer should approve the final enclosure, wiring, thermal plan and local compliance before installation.
Review the LRS-200 product page and HLG family page. If you first need to separate AC input from DC output, see our HLG input/output guide.
