Is 30 LEDs/m Enough? A GS8208 Pixel-Pitch Buying Guide
Turn finished length into visible point pitch and controller count before quoting a DC12V GS8208 strip.
30-second selection answer
- Shortlist it when: The effect is viewed from enough distance that a 33.3 mm nominal point pitch passes a representative channel or diffuser sample.
- Choose another direction when: The buyer needs a close-view continuous line, fine text or small gradients that the real 30 LEDs/m sample cannot resolve.
- Stop the quote when: Finished lengths, viewing distance, controller mapping, protection option or the actual power value are missing.
Send the project dimensions, finished lengths, viewing distance and destination country. Ask LIKELIGHT for the exact-version BOM, representative sample and complete-system quote.
Start with the visible point rhythm
Thirty LEDs per metre gives a nominal centre spacing of 1000 / 30 = 33.3 mm. That is a comparison tool, not a promise of a smooth line.
View the intended chase, gradient and low-brightness scene through the real channel or diffuser at the shortest normal viewing distance.
Record the sample distance, diffuser, brightness and animation in the approval sheet so the same judgement can be repeated for production.
Separate pixel density from cut length
The page says each LED is individually controlled, but density does not prove the cutting interval or finished-length tolerance.
Release exact lengths only from the production drawing and PCB cut marks. Do not convert 33.3 mm spacing into an assumed cut instruction.
Ask the drawing to show every finished section and cable exit; a reel quantity alone cannot confirm how the installation divides.
Turn finished length into a controller count
A hypothetical 12 m design contains 12 x 30 = 360 controllable points. Use that count to screen controller capacity and content mapping.
The figure does not size power. LIKELIGHT leaves W/m open on this page, so the quote must return measured or released load, feed points and cable design.
Reserve controller outputs from the final 360-point map rather than from a verbal estimate of total metres.
Compare complete installed-system cost
Compare strip, controller, power supplies, injection cable, connectors, channel, protection, commissioning and spare sections together.
Thirty LEDs/m may reduce point count, but it is not automatically the lowest installed cost if visible dots force a deeper diffuser or a second sample cycle.
Make supplier comparisons against the same drawing, test scene and acceptance sheet; otherwise a lower unit price may describe a different installed system.
Approve the real assembly, not a bare reel
The LIKELIGHT case is L-S-GS8208-RGB-10030: DC12V, RGB, GS8208 dual data and order-specific protection.
Approve the selected coating, connector, channel, controller and a fault test on one representative finished section before bulk production.
The sample release should name who records results, which controller file is used and which physical section becomes the production reference.
12 m point-budget check
12 x 30 = 360 controllable points and 33.3 mm nominal spacing. Proceed only if the visual sample passes and the controller map plus released W/m are returned.
Hypothetical 12 m finished layout using the published density of 30 LEDs/m; no power value is assumed.

Conditional selection
| Project condition | Buying action |
|---|---|
| Distant outline or broad chase | Sample 30 LEDs/m first and judge point rhythm at the real distance. |
| Close-view continuous line | Compare a denser strip or a diffuser system before freezing the SKU. |
| Hard-to-service animated run | Evaluate dual-data behaviour, but also test power, connectors and adjacent faults. |

Use this LIKELIGHT strip when the real viewing test accepts its point rhythm and the project benefits from individual RGB control with a backup data path.
A useful quote returns exact SKU, valid protection option, finished-length drawing, controller map, released W/m, feed plan, complete BOM, sample acceptance points, spares and lead time.

Frequently asked questions
Does 30 LEDs/m mean a 33.3 mm cut length?
No. It is nominal LED spacing; use the actual cut marks and released drawing.
Does dual data keep the strip lit after every fault?
No. It addresses a data-path failure scenario, not loss of power, connector damage, water ingress or multiple adjacent faults.
Can the 360-point calculation size the power supply?
No. It only budgets control points; use the released W/m and final feed layout for power design.
