LED Chip 101: Core Essence
1. What Is an LED Chip?
A semiconductor device converting electrical energy to light via electroluminescence, the "heart" of LED lights (eaves lights, light strips, point lights). It’s far more energy-efficient than incandescent bulbs or fluorescent tubes, with minimal heat waste.
2. How It Works
- Structure: 3 layers—N-type (free electrons), P-type (holes), Quantum Well (QW, where light forms).
- Process: Forward voltage pushes electrons and holes to QW, they recombine, electrons drop energy levels, releasing photons (light).
- Color Factor: Bandgap energy of semiconductor. GaN-based chips emit blue/UV (for white lights with yellow phosphor); AlGaInP-based emit red/orange/yellow.

4. How to Judge Quality
- Luminous Efficacy: Higher = brighter + lower energy. Standard strips: 120-150lm/W (80-120lm/W final); high-brightness point lights: 150-180lm/W.
- CRI: ≥80 for general use, ≥90 for color-sensitive scenes (retail displays).
- Lifespan: ≥50,000 hours (17 years daily use).
- Thermal Resistance: ≤5°C/W (prevents overheating).
