IP30, IP65 or IP67 RGB Strip: Choose for the Installation, Not the Label

A strip inside a dry retail display and one along a rain-exposed sign do not need the same construction. LIKELIGHT lists IP30, IP65 and IP67 options for its 10 mm L-S-RGB-10060 RGB strip. Start with where water can reach the installation, then ask for the exact protected version and its end treatment. The IP number on a reel does not describe your cut ends, joins, power supply or finished sign.

Ask which strip version fits your installation

Begin with exposure, not the largest IP number

For a dry, enclosed display, discuss the listed IP30 option. If cleaning splashes or damp air can reach the strip, ask how the listed IP65 version is built and where it is suitable. For a rain-exposed run, ask about the exact IP67 version and the treatment of every end and cable exit. These are starting points for a quotation, not blanket installation approvals.

An IP code describes protection of a tested enclosure against solids and water. Its first digit concerns solids; the second concerns water. IP65 and IP67 refer to different water test conditions, so a higher second digit should not replace a description of the actual exposure and assembly.

Decide whether this is the right kind of RGB light

The product page describes a 10 mm flexible strip with 60 SMD5050 RGB LEDs per metre, DC12V or DC24V choices and analog RGB control. Analog means the connected section changes colour together. If the brief calls for individually moving pixels or a chase along the run, ask for an addressable product instead of assuming this strip can do it.

The page lists the voltage and protection choices but leaves power per metre and the smallest permitted cut length as placeholders. Ask for the exact version's datasheet before choosing a power supply, cutting a mock-up or pricing a long run.

Quote the installed line, not just the reel

Send the proposed location and approximate run length. Ask LIKELIGHT to identify the orderable voltage/IP combination and give the finished width, cut mark, approved end seal, connector and cable-exit detail. A nominal 10 mm PCB can occupy more space after protective material is added; check a sample in the real channel.

Have the quotation separate strip, controller, power supply, profiles or clips, sealed joins, spare length and any installation accessories. Ask which parts carry the stated protection level. The strip's IP label alone does not rate a field-cut joint or an electrical box.

Approve one representative section

Try a short sample in the planned channel or sign. Check the visible colour, fit with the chosen protection build, accessible connectors and how the supplied end treatment will be repeated. Agree how the installed section will be inspected before ordering all runs.

For the first enquiry, send four things: where it will be installed and exposed to water, approximate length or quantity, whether all LEDs should change colour together, and destination country. A channel photo helps if available. Ask for the exact version, its drawing and a complete system quote.

Questions buyers ask

Does IP67 make every outdoor installation waterproof?

No. Ask what the product rating covers and how cut ends, joins, cable exits and power enclosures are protected in the proposed installation.

Can this strip show a moving pixel chase?

The listed L-S-RGB-10060 is analog RGB: the connected section changes together. Ask for an addressable strip if individual pixel effects are required.

Is 10 mm the finished width of the protected versions?

The page describes a 10 mm PCB. Request the finished cross-section of the quoted IP version and check it in your channel.

Can I size the power supply from this page?

Not reliably. The power-per-metre field is incomplete. Request the load of the exact ordered voltage and protection build before sizing power and feeds.

Ask for a version and sample that fit your site

Send the location/exposure, approximate length, colour behaviour and destination. Ask LIKELIGHT to return the exact version, finished dimensions, end-treatment method and an itemised system quote.
