4x10mm Side-Emitting Neon Flex: Check Channel Fit Before Cutting the Installation
A nominal 4x10mm neon sample can still bind in a routed channel, aim at the wrong surface or change size with its protection version. This guide focuses on mechanical fit, emission direction and version control before production.
Start with the surface that must receive the light
Side-emitting neon sends its visible line across the narrow profile direction. Installed with the emitting face towards the wrong return or cover, even a high-density version produces the wrong visual result.
Mark the emitting face, cable exit and viewing side on the section drawing. Test a straight run, an inside corner and an outside corner in the actual channel before routing the full installation.
Why 4x10mm does not equal a 4x10mm slot
The published silicone product format is 4x10mm, but channels need assembly tolerance, manufacturing variation, bend transitions and room for cable exits. A tight nominal slot can pinch the silicone or prevent replacement.
The page does not publish a minimum bend radius or cutting interval. Do not derive either from external size; use the final production drawing and a physical fit sample.
Compare density as emitter pitch, not promised smoothness
For 30, 60, 72, 96 and 144 LEDs/m, nominal emitter pitches are about 33.3, 16.7, 13.9, 10.4 and 6.9mm. Smaller pitch can reduce visible stepping, but diffuser thickness, brightness and viewing distance remain decisive.
LED density is not automatically pixel density. The page lists single-colour, RGB, digital and addressable choices, so control grouping and cut positions depend on the ordered circuit.
No W/m is published for the complete range. Power and feed calculations must use the chosen voltage, density and control version rather than a value borrowed from another neon product.
Freeze electrical and control versions together
The page lists DC5V, DC12V and DC24V plus several colour and control choices. These are alternatives, not one universal cable, controller or cutting configuration.
Approve a sample record containing voltage, density, IC or interface, grouping, colour order, data direction, pinout and cut mark. This prevents a visually correct silicone sample from being paired with an incompatible controller later.
Protection changes termination and replacement
IP66 is listed, alongside IP65/IP67/IP68 options. The final rating must refer to the ordered construction and completed ends; field-cut cable exits and connectors do not inherit it automatically.
Include end caps, adhesive or moulded ends, drainage, connector clearance and removal direction in the channel mock-up. A channel that hides every joint may also make one damaged section impossible to replace.
