How to Specify a UCS1903 or WS2811 60 LEDs/m Addressable RGB Strip
A specification-first guide for commercial lighting buyers, installers and OEM project teams.
A 60 LEDs/m RGB strip is not automatically a 60-pixel-per-metre product. For the UCS1903/WS2811 configuration on this product page, the IC grouping, voltage and PCB copper weight determine the usable control resolution, wiring approach and protection level. These points should be fixed before samples or bulk production.
1. Confirm the controllable pixel grouping
At DC12V with 60 LEDs/m, the published configuration is 20 controllable pixels per metre: each pixel segment contains 3 RGB SMD5050 LEDs. At DC24V with 60 LEDs/m, it is 10 controllable pixels per metre: each segment contains 6 LEDs. This grouping is the practical control resolution for chases, gradients and programmed effects; it is not individual control of every LED.

2. Match the IC and controller before ordering
UCS1903 and WS2811 are addressable-pixel IC families used for RGB data control. The controller must support the final protocol and the total number of pixel segments in the installation. For a project, confirm the controller model, output ports, data direction, required scenes and the maximum controlled pixel count per port. Do not specify only “smart RGB strip”; specify the final IC solution and voltage on the purchase order.
3. Plan power around the finished layout
The published power is 14.4 W/m. Total length, number of feed points, cable routing and simultaneous full-white operation affect the power-distribution plan. This strip uses a 10 mm PCB and offers 2 oz copper as standard, with 3 oz copper available as an option. Heavier copper can improve durability, thermal handling and voltage-drop resistance, but it does not replace a proper power-feed layout. Confirm the finished run lengths and feed locations with the installer or controller designer.
4. Choose protection for the real environment
IP30 is suitable for dry, protected applications. IP65 is available with a silicone tube or silicone glue treatment, while IP67 uses silicone tube plus glue. The final protection decision should include the installation orientation, cut/join locations, connector sealing and whether the strip will be exposed to washing, standing water or only occasional moisture. The standard reel length is 5 m, and cuts or joins are made at the copper tabs.
5. Use the specification sheet as a project checklist
- DC12V or DC24V, required metres and number of runs
- UCS1903/WS2811 control protocol, controller and desired effect resolution
- PCB color, 2 oz or 3 oz copper, and cable/feed layout
- IP30, IP65 or IP67 construction plus connector and cut-end sealing
